Square’s rates by plan, in person, online and keyed, plus the volume each paid plan needs before its lower rate pays for itself.
PayPal fee calculator
PayPal’s fee on any payment, what you keep, what to charge to receive an exact amount, and what PayPal costs a business over a year.
Stripe vs Square
Both flat-rate providers side by side on $20, $100 and $500 sales, and why the cheaper of the two is still not cheap.
Interchange plus pricing
What interchange plus is, what a fair markup looks like, how it compares with flat-rate and tiered pricing, and how it gets padded.
Why every calculator compares against interchange plus 5 basis points
Interchange and card network fees are the same whichever processor you use. The only part that changes is the processor’s markup. An account priced honestly passes interchange and network fees through at cost and adds about 5 basis points, which is 0.05%. That is the benchmark every calculator here measures you against.
- A low rate is not a low cost. Processors can quote a low rate and win the money back through marked-up network fees and fees no card network charges.
- The industry is non-regulated. Two businesses on the same processor can pay completely different amounts.
- The price can change after you sign. Merchant agreements let processors change their fees, so the only way to know is to check the statement.
We explain how a quoted rate can hide the real cost in How can I have the lowest discount rate and the worst deal? Already know your markup in basis points? Our savings estimator shows what our clients typically recover.
