What to know: Priority scores 51 out of 100
Priority Payment Systems’ score on the weAudit Processor Scoreboard. Its weakest categories are Sales Channel Conduct, at 4 out of 15, and Fee Practices and Contract Terms, at 7 out of 25.
- An overbilling class action. Priority has faced a fraud and overbilling class action brought on behalf of merchants.
- A hard way out. Our rating documents an exit process layered enough that leaving can end at a collections agency.
- Agent-set pricing. MX Merchant accounts are sold largely through independent agents, so two merchants on the same platform can pay very different rates.
What MX Merchant is
MX Merchant is the merchant-facing platform of Priority Technology Holdings, Inc. It combines a virtual terminal, a payment gateway, the MX Merchant Express mobile app, invoicing and reporting. Merchants use it to take payments, check batches and deposits, and download statements. It works with a Priority merchant account; it is not a gateway you can carry to another processor.
Why the platform matters for your price
Because MX Merchant is tied to Priority’s processing, choosing the platform means choosing the processor, and Priority’s pricing is set account by account, largely through independent sales agents. That makes the platform convenient and the price hard to compare. Read who has the best credit card processing rates for why the setup matters more than the quoted rate.
Same pattern, different processor. Fiserv’s Business Track and Heartland’s InfoCentral are the same kind of portal. The portal is where you see your fees; it is not where you find out whether they are fair.
